Dear Dance Company Families,
Thank you for the incredible commitment, time, and energy you and your dancers pour into SDM. Our company teams are the heart of our studio.
We wanted to let you know that you will be invited to a
Private EXTRA Early Pre‑Registration window STARTING MONDAY MARCH 9th
before VIP Pre‑Registration opens to all current families on Monday March 16th. All current team and company dancers are welcome to register for classes even if for whatever reason you will not be joining our team or company classes next school year.
Keep an eye out for your Pre-Registration packet (with your recommendations, and next school year’s schedule) that will be coming in the mail starting the week of March 9th, however, you will recieve an email in your inbox on March 9th as well.
Once VIP Pre‑Registration opens for all current students on March 16, you may still add or adjust classes through your SDM student registration portal.
Auditions Are Only Required for the Following:
– Auditions are not needed for most teams and Ballet companies, families can just sign up for a team.
– Auditions are needed for dancers seeking additional roles in our Ballet Company for Pointe Int I & above. This will take place Saturday May 30th 2:45-4:15pm at AVI
– Auditions are needed for all Jazz competition-focused dancers. Current Pre-Elite dancers auditions will take place May 29th 6:45-8:45pm at AVI. All other current and new dancer auditions will take place May 30th from 4:30-6:30pm at AVI
– Auditions for Hip Hop competition- focused dancers will take place May 28th from 8:20-9:20pm at AVI
Note for Competition‑Focused Company Dance Families
Technique and choreography levels may shift after auditions at the end of May. Families can add the “choreo” classes needed after auditions and change their technique classes as well if needed.
Commitment
– We would love to have everyone part of one of our teams or ballet company, however, teamates count on each other, so if you cannot attend all required performances and dress rehearsals please be considerate of others and choose to not join for our following school year. We want to support you in your dancing! We would be thrilled to continue working on your technique in our classes for those of you auditioning for high school dance teams! However, out of dedication and respect for your fellow dancers, our teams and ballet company require a primary commitment, our rehearsals and events must take precedence over all other extracurricular activities.
Note for All Teams
– For all company teams, all requests for solos, duets, trios, and small groups must be submitted by auditions May 30th. This allows us to plan casting and choreography within the category and level limitations set by competitions. In addition, we must have all final routine requests confirmed no later than May 30 so we can complete competition registrations accurately.
– Private lessons may be taken for choreography and for technical traning. They may be take in addition to classes or substitute a required class. Please be sure to let us know when, where, and with what teacher you would like to request for the following school year so we can best schedule everyone at the closest preferred times.
– All solos, duet, trios and small group REQUESTS MUST BE MADE BY MAY 30th. This includes all competitive solos, duet, trios, and small groups for Hip Hop, Jazz, & Ballet and includes all regular and all ballet competitions.
Note on Elite Team
– At auditions, Elite dancers will request how many routines they would like to compete in for the upcoming year. Keep in mind you will see in the schedule you will recieve next week the following choices will include: Thu 8:10 Jes- Sun 12:30 Laurn Tue 5:35 Reb & Sun 11:30 Jes. Again, If you are planning to request a particular duet, trio, or small group with a particular teacher, please let us know before May 30th.
– Large Group participation is an expected part of the Elite program and is considered a required routine. Rehearsals will be held on Wed at 8:05 w Jess and may occasionally include weekend practices. We understand that dancers have school, family, and other activity commitments. We will review conflicts case‑by‑case and do our best to accommodate those that truly cannot participate.
Work Study Program
Those dancers that would like more information about our “work study” program, please email Liliana@schoolofdanceandmusic.com directly. We ask that students are 16 years of age, however there may also be opportunities for those that are younger high school students at a minimum Pointe Beg level. Work study program is offered during our school year (not in the summer) and could range from minimal one hour or class a week to more. It may include assisting classes, helping at shows, and other tasks needed at the studio : )
Thank you again for being part of the School of Dance & Music and for trusting us with your dancer’s growth. Please reach out with any questions you may have!

A Special Note specifically to our Ballet/Tap/Jazz 5-7yr old students:
It is almost show time! Our June Dance Recital is being held on June 6th-8th at the Redondo Performing Arts Center (1935 Manhattan Beach Blvd, Redondo Beach, CA 90278).
We wanted to send your specific group a few reminders for those with us in past recitals :
Your dancer has graduated from our “Jr. Showcase” (for younger classes) and is now performing in our “Mini Show” format.
The “Mini Shows” last between 45-60 min and run 1 group after the other like a usual dance show (not in 10 minute segments like the “Jr. Showcase”)
Last, reminder to avoid lines on the day of the show and to avoid the extra $5 surcharge, please purchase your tickets ahead of time (schoolofdanceandmusic.com/tix). All tickets are non-refundable so please do not lose your tickets (the wristband is good for the entire weekend) as there are no replacements for them. New tickets will need to be purchased if you lose them. You can also find our show program for the weekend at : schoolofdanceandmusic.com/showProgram
Thank you and enjoy the show!

Attention All Dancers :
Don’t forget! All dance classes will be putting on an ‘In-Studio Sneak Peek Performance’ during our upcoming Spring Dance Parent Observation Weeks (March 7th – March 12th AND May 31st thru June 6th).
What? The students will be performing some or parts of the routines they have been working on (4 times) so that if there are siblings at the same time, families will be able to watch all of their dancers involved.
Where & When? The last 20 minutes of each student’s regular dance class time, day & location from March 7th – March 12th and again the week of May 31st – June 6th.
How? One member of each family may come into the studio to watch in-person while all other family members and friends are welcome to watch their dancer for this special ‘Sneak Peek Week’ via ZOOM. The zoom.us meeting ID’s and passwords will be emailed to all students the week before.
Dancewear Reminders! – If you already purchased any of the ‘In-Studio Performance’ attire for this past winter in-studio show make sure to wear it! This was optional – so for those of you that did not, you are welcome to wear something aqua or light blue, or white for our Spring Themed “Blue Skies” for all of our ballet jazz and tap classes and all black for our hip hop classes! We may also have more ‘In-Studio Performance’ attire available for purchase at the studio, however we are limited to whatever we currently have available since it has been challenging receiving dancewear this year from our suppliers.
In addition to the In-Studio Performances our school puts on, a big end of the year Dance Recital at the beautiful Redondo Performing Arts Center is held the weekend of June 11th & 12th (with our Dance Company Shows performing June 10th). It has been 2 years since we have been able to come back at to the theater after 2 years of our garden shows. This June we will be keeping a similar show format for our recital weekend which will decrease our standard audience size which used to be over 1000 guests (with a 75min show) to under 100 guests where you will only stay to watch your groups on stage performance.
All dance students enrolled before Nov 6th were guaranteed a spot in our optional year end Dance Recital. At registration, every dance student was placed to participate in the recital unless otherwise noted. All classes perform in the June recital except for Mommy & My, 2 ½ – 3yrs, and technical classes including older ballet classes that meet multiple times per week.
You are welcomed to buy as many tickets as you like which will allow entrance for the entire weekend. Tickets are $20/guest and may be purchased online (link and more info coming soon).
For those students that are scheduled to perform in the End of Year June recital – You will be emailed your personalized recital details before next Monday February 21st.
Please don’t hesitate to give us a call or visit with any questions you may have!
Sincerely,
Liliana, Dan & our aMaZiNg staff

Happy Tuesday SDM Families!
We hope that the start to your school year has so far been a success. We have been super busy working behind the scenes finishing the buildout of the new PCH location and with planning this years’ Dance & Music events and student experience enhancements. It has been so refreshing to see all of the students coming back to the studios (or still zooming at home!) these past couple months – we thank you and appreciate your dedication to SDM and dance!
